Is this meant for real birds?

Hello Roxanne! Thank you for asking! Yes, the bird house is meant for real birds. The entering hole works well as ventilation. And there are pinholes throughout for further ventilation and drainage. To clean it what we recommend is to go through the front hole with a hook or pliers to remove large debris, then flush the rest out using a garden hose.
We have kept several birdhouses of this style in front of our offices and the birds LOVE them – often building nests, laying eggs, and raising their babies in the birdhouse stakes.
